“Medical student syndrome”: a real disease or just a myth?—a cross-sectional study at Menoufia University, Egypt

Abstract Background A widely held belief is that “Medical student syndrome” frequently experienced by young medical students, is, they experience the symptoms of diseases are studying or fear having such illness. hypothesis because students constantly learn about life-threatening conditions and diseases, persistent stress regarding a severe condition, an anxiety-related illness called nosophobia. Results Although scored average 14.14 on scale measuring potential nosophobia a, difference between their scores those non-medical who 0.11, significantly higher ( p 0.001). According to presented analysis, exhibit distinct levels The analysis responses hypochondriacal behaviors revealed from faculties 1.43 points.
